Michael Meier named Emergency Management Director
BONNERS FERRY — Boundary County Commissioners named Michael Meier as the new Boundary County Director of Emergency Management on Monday.
Boundary County Commissioner Dan Dinning said he was surprised at the number of excellent applicants that the county received for the position, but that Meier made the perfect fit.
“We had a very, very good pool of applicants for the position,” Dinning said, “but what stood out to all of us was his personality and the depth of his experience, which made him uniquely qualified for the position.”
Boundary County Commissioner LeAlan Pinkerton agreed.
“He brings a wealth of experience and he has a balanced personality that will enable him to successfully engage with all of the individuals and agencies involved with Emergency Management,” Pinkerton said.
With eleven years of law enforcement experience and a host of management experience, Meier is also a graduate with an advanced certificate from the National Emergency Management Institute in Maryland and was the Section Emergency Coordinator for the state of Idaho for five years prior to accepting the position.
Meier began his law enforcement career while serving with the United States Air Force 27th Combat Special Ops, in Vietnam, the equivalent of the U.S. Army Ranger or Navy Seals. In 1969, Meier started the Rangers Security Police training and graduated first in his class.
In the mid 1970s, Meier began his civilian law enforcement career in Oregon, which he enjoyed until 1986 when he was injured in the line of duty.
Meier is currently the Boundary County Public Information Officer and will continue to serve in that capacity.
Meier, a ten-year resident, said he feels Boundary County is the best place on earth and is anxious to serve and help the community.
“I look forward to working with all agencies within the County, and will always be available to the public,” Meier said. “I just love the people here and that’s why I do what I do.”
When Meier isn’t working, he enjoys performing with the adult contemporary band Quarter Moon, who recently released an original hits album entitled ‘In The Mirror.’ Meier, a drummer since third grade, has led a successful career in the music industry and has performed nationally throughout his lifetime, but says he prefers to stay close to home as he enjoys the quiet life that Boundary County has to offer.
