Boundary County 4-H Beef program has successful spring
Members of the Boundary County 4-H Beef program have been busy this spring. Four began showing off their animals March 31 in Moses Lake at the North Central Washington Junior Livestock Show. Nine ventured to the Spokane Jr. Livestock Show May 2-7 to show their heifers, prospect steers and five sold market steers.
More than 110 4-H and FFA steers sold at the Market sale held May 6. Additionally over 70 prospect steers, 50 heifers, and 200 beef kids from the Northwest came to enjoy the event. The Boundary County showman did well making it back to showmanship finals and/or the top 10 with their animals.
Five members traveled to the American Junior Simmental Association Western Regional Classic held in Prineville, Ore., June 22-24. Here they tested their public speaking skills, sales talk ability, cattle judging, knowledge about livestock and industry, as well as, their showmanship skills. More than 90 head of cattle came and 50 juniors. Again the Boundary Beef kids placed strong in all the events with three placing in the Top 10 overall. There were 13 youth representing Idaho.
From here on out all the kids will continue to get their animals ready for the Boundary County Fair Aug. 16-19.
