The Border Fire was initially reported by a local resident at 7:17 p.m. Sunday, July 23, in the vicinity of the Port Hill Cemetery. Hall Mountain responded swiftly with wildland engines and were able to stop the forward spread of the fire, which was located just south of Port Hill Loop Road. BVA and the Border Patrol also responded to provide support.

Idaho Department of Lands personnel arrived shortly after and worked together with Hall Mountain to further secure the fire edge. IDL took command of the fire around 9:30 p.m. and remained on scene until after midnight hotspotting and reducing the potential for the fire to spread further. IDL personnel and equipment continue to mop-up and check the fire for any hot spots. The fire burned about a half an acre in mixed grass, brush and timber.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but is likely human caused.
