Valley View Elementary School: May 2017 Media Newsletter
This year is nearly over and I am happy to announce it has been a great one for Valley View Elementary School. The students and staff are wrapping up testing and looking forward to some educational field trips, outdoor school, and other kinesthetic activities that will help create lifelong memories. It is a great time to be a Badger.
Some of our great Badgers are highlighted this month for the character trait of self-discipline. It is my honor to recognize the following students:
Lyndsey Overman, Landon Barton, Brecken Miller, Kayli Petersen, Victoria Carmean-Helsper, Mryon Michaels, Eivind Falck, Elliott Homik, Johnathan Phillips, Riley Beggerly, Mika Waltering, Kassidy Durette, Jaydin Falck, Lilly Krejci, Asher Williams, Michael Stindt, and Emma Tompkins. Please congratulate these self-disciplined students when you see them.
Each month Mrs. Petesch does the Family Fitness Challenge which encourages families to be active together. This month’s winner is Mary Moon from Mr. Miller’s class and she received a new football. Congratulations Mary! If there are any questions regarding Family Fitness Challenge please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Petesch at the school.
Valley View Elementary Kindergarten staff teamed up with the City of Bonners Ferry and Idaho Department of Lands to plant a tree for Arbor Day this year. After the sidewalk project came through this summer and the big beautiful tree outside the Kindergarten Building was lost, the teachers came together to plot a way to plant a new tree. A Linden Tree was chosen because the roots grow down, and would be least likely to disturb the new sidewalk. Also, Linden trees are proven to do well in this area, as they grow in the neighborhoods around Valley View.
You might have spotted the new Garden Boxes outside the Kindergarten Building as well. As part of the science curriculum, students learn about living things and life cycles and these garden boxes will be a fun display of their work and learning. Soon, the Little Free Lending Library will return to the area to allow students to read books whenever they like. Please stop by, admire the gardens and tree, and pick out a free book, or leave a book for someone else to enjoy. In the future, the teachers would like to add a bench outside to complete the area and provide a quiet spot for relaxing and learning.
Mrs. Stagliano received a grant this year from Lowe’s for $5,000 to build a fence at the Early Childhood Learning Classroom. Valley View Elementary School extends its appreciation to Lowe’s Home Improvement for contributing to and enhancing the educational experience of our students.
Thank you to the many wonderful volunteers and visitors we have at our great school daily. You are appreciated!
