Lorraine Johanna Hermann
Lorraine Johanna Hermann
Our loving Mom, Sister, Grandma, Great Grandma and Friend, Lorraine Johanna Hermann, a longtime Bonners Ferry resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Community Restorium as morning’s first light came shining through her window.
Lorraine (known as “Tootie” to all her family and friends in Minnesota) was one of 12 children born to Paul and Alvinia Neuman on July 16, 1923 in Nashua, Minn. While attending high school in Tintah, Minn., she met her future husband, John Hermann. After graduation Lorraine worked at the Post Office in Tintah and upon John’s return from World War II the couple were married on March 26, 1946. They became parents to three daughters.
Lorraine and John moved their daughters around the country when John became an agent with the Border Patrol. After spending time in Brownsville, Texas, and Jackman, Maine, the family migrated to Portal, N.D. until 1961. When her husband joined the Immi-gration Service the family moved to Porthill, Idaho, and in 1980 they moved to Bonners Ferry. For the past five years she lived at the Community Restorium, where she received excellent care. Lorraine’s easy going, social nature endeared her to others and she made lifelong friends at each stop.
Besides working at the Post Office in Porthill and the Hallmark store in Bonners Ferry, she spent many hours volunteering. She was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, the Hospital Auxiliary, Mirror Lake Ladies Golf Association and the Prayer Chain. She enjoyed her luncheons and meetings, coffee with the girls, playing cards, shopping and especially family gatherings.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 10 siblings, her husband John, and son-in-law Steve Bender. She will be dearly missed by her brother, Ray and Lynda Neuman of Wahpeton, N.D., and numerous nieces and nephews in Minnesota; her daughters Jeanine Bender of Bonners Ferry, Susan and Arliss Blalack of Cataldo and Lori and Joe Fagenstrom of Grass Valley, Calif. Grandchildren Michelle and Pat Bulger, Stephanie and Ernie Brown, Andrew and Jody Blalack, Michael and Aimee Blalack, Allison Blalack, Cally and Brad Peterson, Claire Pupo and Ben Pupo. Great-grandchildren Tyler, Kale, Jackson, Georgia, Luke and Raina will also miss their sweet “Grandma-the-Rain.”
A Vigil will be held at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 9, with a Memorial Service at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10 at the Bonners Ferry Community Restorium, 6619 Kaniksu St.
