Pete Dyke

Pete Dyke went home to be with his Heavenly Father on June 16, 2017 at the Extended Care Facility in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Pete was born on Sept. 18, 1929 in Manhattan, Mont., to Hiram P. and Jennie (Oldenburger) Dyke. He was the 7th of 12 children. Pete graduated in 1947 from Ellensburg High School and then attended Simpson Bible College in Seattle, Wash., where he met his wife Mary Blunt. They were married on June 29, 1951. They made their first home in Seattle, while Pete worked for Boeing as a template maker. They settled in Moyie Springs, Idaho, in 1959 where Pete worked in the woods for a short time and also at the Continental Mines. He was later employed by the Moyie River Lumber Co. until he retired.

He loved building and named his construction company T and E Construction (Trial and Error). He aided in building his first home in Bonners Ferry and then fulfilled a dream by building a home in District 2. He loved his garden and trees. His yard always looked beautiful. He also loved 4-wheeling and hunting with his sons and grandsons.

Pete loved the Lord and taught Sunday school in the little Moyie Church for a time. He was a very generous donor to various Christian charities, such as World Vision and International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. He had a strong faith in God that brought him through many hardships.

In 2004, Pete’s wife, Mary, passed away. Pete stayed busy with his gardening and loved going up to his son’s cabin to hunt and spend time with the “boys.”

A few years later, Pete found love again, with Dee Short. She brought back his smile and brought him much love and happiness. After a brief courtship (of eight years), Pete and Dee were married on Nov. 23, 2014 in Lewiston, Idaho, by Pete’s daughter, Judge Michelle Evans. They enjoyed their time together and loved spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his beautiful wife Dee (Short) Dyke of Bonners Ferry. His children: Doug Dyke of Lewiston, Idaho, and his son Dustin of Gainesville, Texas; Steven Dyke and his sons Joe Dyke, wife Emily and their children Ellie, Leila, & James; Chris Dyke and Josh Dyke all from Boise, Idaho; Sheryl Maier, husband Tim, son Jason Alexander, his wife Shandee and children Boston and Kaydence of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; Barb Dyke of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; Michelle Evans, and husband Terry, and sons Joshua and Keith of Lewiston, Idaho.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary, and his grandson, Jacob Evans.

Pete’s memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Mountain Springs Church.
