Ground Breaking

The Valley Studio had shared last week’s picture of some men beside a fire truck. They were receiving a new MSA Air Mask for use when entering burning buildings. Steve McNally and Wilma Wallace identified them, starting at the left, as Tom Hopkins (not shown), Jim Hopkins, Bob Meeker, Wes Diest, Melvin Mesenbrink, unknown, then Warren Truesdell. The man on the truck is Tom Mesenbrink (not shown). Steve says that four of these men are his uncles and the picture was taken in 1965 or 1966.

Wilma Wallace, a past fair queen herself, recognized the Fair Royalty as Marilyn Edmunds, Kathy Solt and an unrecognized member. They were pictured on the fair float shown, in this column, two weeks ago. Wilma recognized the robe worn by Miss Solt as the one worn for years by Fair Royalty.

Your Boundary County Historical Society and Museum, 7229 Main, Bonners Ferry, Idaho sponsors this column. During the winter, the Museum is open Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To help maintain the buildings, a small entrance fee is requested. It is $2 per person or $5 per family. There is no charge for those under 14 years old or for the Boundary County Historical Society members.
