Behind the Scenes with Kelsey Steffen
BONNERS FERRY -- Being an entrepreneur and business owner didn’t make the short list when Kelsey Steffen entered adulthood, nor was speaking at the Bonners Ferry Women in Business conference until her husband Jason Steffen volunteered her.
Before addressing local and aspiring businesswomen, Steffen graciously shared her time and additional details that silently paved the way for her current position co-operating Full of Days, a website dedicated to living a health-filled and intentional life.
Successfully working together as husband and wife presents challenges, but life finds a way to prepare us. Seven years ago, they remodeled a house and gained several notches in communication. “One degree”, a perspective the Steffens regularly reference and tattooed on Steffen’s inner wrist, reminds them to step over and view a situation from a slightly different perspective.
Five years later, Jason Steffen ventured out and opened Smalltown Design, a local graphic design and branding business, that he runs from their home.
Again, they added notches as they learned to balance a spouse working from home while the other homeschooled and cared for children amongst other responsibilities.
When Full of Days began just over a year ago, the Steffen family was primed for managing all that creating a successful website entailed and what a year they had!
What began as “dinner out” income grew to a part-time salary. Full of Day’s first year exceeded their goals in contributing, collaborating, and publishing with 240 articles. As Steffen looks forward she maintains true to Full of Days’ five-fold foundation: Mission, vision, goals, relationships with mentors, and tracking time.
For readers looking for an immediate takeaway, Steffen offered a plan for success including permission to say “no” to opportunities that don’t match with one’s goals and “Choose to live a life full of days.”
