Danny E. Dunning

Danny E. Dunning passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at his home in Porthill, Idaho.

Services pending for this summer.

Dan was born in Seattle, Wash., on Oct. 21, 1946 to Roy and Shirley Dunning. Dan graduated from Ballard High School in June 1965 where he enlisted into the Army on Oct. 21, 1965.

He leaves behind his children, David and Suzie Dunning, Tammy and Allan Hanson. Stepdaughters, Jody Howard, Leslie, and Michael Bourdon.

Dan had six Grandchildren, Lindsey Dunning, Jacob, and Megan Hanson, Austin and Paige Howard, with great grandson Jaxson and Alyssa Myracle with great grandson Keith and Monica Bourdon.

Dan also leaves behind his bird, Popa Gano, otherwise known as “Poppy” who was his sidekick everywhere he went.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Dunning, his parents, Roy and Shirley Dunning, and his sister Pamela.

Dan retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant officer CW03 in 1987 after 22 years of service.

When Dan retired, he moved back to his hometown Bonner’s Ferry Idaho with his wife who also retired from the Army.

After retirement, Dan worked as a deputy for the Boundry County Sheriff’s office for 3 years.

Dan’s hobbies while he was retired were building birdhouses, trains, coins, and the love of fishing. Dan was very interested in Antiques and the story behind each piece he would find at Sater’s Auction every Thursday, in Moyie Springs.

He enjoyed his grand children and always said, “Grandpa knows best.”
