Surf's up at The Pearl

| March 16, 2017 1:00 AM

As an epic winter seems never-ending, North Idaho residents may find their thoughts turning to sunshine, sand, and sea.

Look no further…The Pearl Theater has just the thing!

View From a Blue Moon, written and directed by surfing legend, John John Florence, and Blake Kuny, explores the closest we can come to the ocean without buying a plane ticket.

It may be a little early for a few of us to don that bikini, but everyone could use a little taste of summer, especially with surfing images shot entirely in stunning 4k film (and often from helicopters).

For a mere $5 ticket, The Pearl invites the audience to sit back and relax as they experience the waves with one of surfing’s biggest stars.

View From a Blue Moon follows the native Hawaiian with his closest friends from the North Shore of Oahu to their favorite surfing destinations around the globe. Florence continues to seal his legacy as one of the most gifted surfers ever by redefining what is possible in the ocean. From the dreamy blue perfection of the South Pacific to the uncharted waters of Africa, Florence rides waves of emotion as he takes on the world’s best waves.

Rather than relaxation, the movie may (at times) keep us on the edge of our seats, but what fun to go along for the ride: “Weather schmeather,” said one prospective audience member, “I’m wearing sunblock, shorts, and shades. Let the sunshine in!”

The Pearl Café will have traditional movie fare (like popcorn, boxed candy, and hotdogs), along with a few healthier options and Nora’s decadent desserts.

“We don’t want to become a movie house, but it’s time to break up the winter blues,” said Pearl Board of Directors President, Rhea Verbanic.

The Pearl Theater is a non-profit organization, dedicated to fostering the performing arts throughout Boundary County.
