BOISE—The writing camp for gifted high school writers, Writers at Harriman, is now accepting applications for 2017. The camp runs July 30 through August 5 at Harriman State Park of Idaho. The application deadline is June 15.

The teaching writers for this year’s camp will be poet and essayist Chris Dempsey; Nicole LeFavour, who is a novelist, essayist, and poet; lyricist and poet Megan Levad; and Malai Collins who writes short stories and children’s books. The four are seasoned writing teachers. The camp will feature guest artists who will teach water colors, paper making, and storytelling.

Student writers will also have time to explore the park looking for moose, trumpeter swans, elk, and sandhill cranes. Horseback riding and nature hikes will round out the week.

Camp Director Rick Just says that applicants are selected for their interest in writing. “We keep the tuition very low so that more people can attend. We especially want to recruit students from smaller schools.” Some scholarships are available.
