BONNERS FERRY — There is an average of 1.4 burglaries — or breaking and entering of homes or businesses — every hour in Idaho, according to the Idaho State Police 2016 Statewide Crime Profile Crime Clock.

Since 2012, Bee Safe Security, Inc. has been helping the community avoid being part of those statistics. Bee Safe has been a sister company to Northwest Shelter Systems, started in 1990, which has been in the security business on a nationwide level, building custom safes, vaults, and secure rooms for homes and businesses.

“We opened Bee Safe Security as a local company to bring the same quality and security to the local community,” said owner Kevin Thompson.

Located in Naples, they have undergone many changes in the past two years, while staying true to their mission.

“It has always been our mission to provide protection and peace of mind to families and individuals as well as their valuables,” said Thompson.

They have established their main office, conveniently located on Highway 95, that allows them to serve the local community, but to reach out to Sandpoint and the surrounding areas as well. They have also expanded their product line, including large custom safes than can fit a family for a short period of time, acting as a temporary safe room.

They also now offer high quality CCTV security camera systems and alarm systems. A CCTV system is a closed circuit television system that can give the user the flexibility to maintain a private viewable network. It also has the option of keeping an eye on family, home, or business from anywhere, with the use of a mobile device.

For outdoor safety, to protect, home, property, or business, Bee Safe now manufactures heavy duty security gates. These have many unique features, making them not only safe, but easy to use, with options to fit a wide array of needs.

“Additionally, we now offer financing secured through a local credit union, which is a demand in the community,” said Thompson, “making our products more accessible.”

Bee Safe strives to do everything it can to keep the community safe, and to do so at an affordable price. They custom design security systems based on the customer’s need, including the ability to add on extra cameras as budget allows. They look for sales and pass these savings on to the customer.

“We do our best to cover every aspect of security, whether it be security cameras, alarms, window bars and break-resistant film, security gates, vaults, concrete filled vault doors and blast doors, safes and safe rooms, and blast hatches,” said Thompson.

Bee Safe offers state-of-the-art bomb shelters that can function as an addition to a person’s home. They are far from the damp, spider-filled shelters of the past, offering solar systems and comfort. The filtration systems are key and Bee Safe uses a NBC system, which stands for nuclear, biological, and chemical filtration.

“Many people who survive initial chemical and biological weapons attacks later succumb to the effects of breathing the contaminated air,” Bee Safe explains on their website.

Thompson is particularly proud of their safes and safe rooms.

“Our custom walk-in safes/safe rooms are special because they are designed to be installed right into your home and are easily installed,” he said. “Inner sections are built to be added and increase the size of these safes according to your individual needs. We also provide the highest quality blast doors and vault doors which are concrete filled and equipped with NBC seals.”

Bee Safe is always looking to give back to the community, “... to provide top quality products and services at a fair price, and further our community by providing local jobs,” said Thompson. “We support our local fire departments and local law enforcement by donating security items and kits for silent auctions. We have also had the pleasure of sponsoring a young athlete.”

“In the end it is our own family that gives us our inspiration and the need to protect what is most important to us,” said Thompson.

When asked what makes him happy in this business, Thompson responded, “The satisfaction of helping families and individuals achieve security and peace of mind, no matter what the level.”
