‘Guardian Overwatch’ chapter doing great things

To all residents of Northern Idaho and loyal readers of the Bonner Bee, Bonners Ferry Herald and the Spokesman-Review. I wish to take a moment of your time to bring to everyone’s attention a selfless and most generous group of incredible men and women of which are former military and dedicated to helping other veterans in need.

Being in my 80s now, the body doesn’t move as agily as it used to and consequently each year gets harder to cut and stow 8 to 10 cords of firewood. Anyway, my tardiness in getting my wood supply in came to the attention of this group. My wife notified me that on Oct. 27 and 28 that a group of local veterans and citizens would be arriving to help me with the wood production. This did not come as a salvation, but as an admittance that l was not 25 anymore. I was a bit reluctant to this idea and so express the same!

Fast forward:

On Oct. 27, Friday, as planned a caravan of pickups drove in our driveway with a request “OK, where’s the log deck”? I pointed to a visible pile on the southern border of the pasture and within minutes six saws were making serious inroads in the pile height. This continued into the mid afternoon when all agreed it had been a good day we loaded over five cords in the basement. The troops enjoy the lunch and informed us a second group would be here tomorrow to finish up. Again right on schedule in came the convoy and again decimated the log deck which put another three cords in the basement. I was immensely impressed with the sense of service, generosity and dedication to fellow veterans.

Now these patriots would take no monetary assistance for gas or expenses. Their charter value is to assist fellow veterans that will benefit from their efforts. They insist that they did not want any names highlighted, but to put things in focus, one member drove up from Troy, ldaho, quite a trip.

This incredible group of men and women veterans and local citizens are known as “Guardian Overwatch ldaho Chapter.” Chapter Capt. Ms. Lisa DeHeer. A special thanks to the Spirit Lake VFW Post 1473 and the ldaho National Guard of whom some were members. It is difficult to express my sense of gratitude but hopefully a “Sincere Thank You All” will be well received.

Sincerely,

Roy E. Kisner
