Final days of the Penny War competition during the week of Veterans Day, when BCMS raises funds for local veteran organizations.
First let me say happy Thanksgiving to all of you out there. We appreciate and are thankful for the support we get from this community every day. We strive to help give back when we can and though we probably don’t say it enough, Thank You!
We would specifically like to thanks our Veterans for making many of the things we do possible. We would also like to thank those Veterans who spent part of their day with us on Veterans Day speaking to students and helping them understand what it was you gave up and what you did for all of us. In thanks, we held our annual Penny War competition during the week of Veterans Day where we raise funds for local Veteran organizations. It was another fierce competition but in the end our winners were: Mrs. Stolley (sixth grade), Mrs. Hinthorn (seventh grade), and Mrs. Johnson (eighth grade). The real winners were our local Veterans who received $1255.50 in donations from the money raised from this event.
We can also thank our support staff at BCMS for their everyday work helping this school run as well as it does. We would not have most of the students at school if not for our bus drivers. We would not have a well-run and organized school if not for our secretaries. We would not have a safe and clean environment if not for our custodians. We would not have a quiet well stocked library if not for our librarians. We would not have well fed students able to focus on learning if not for our cooks. We would not have the extra support some students need if not for our paraprofessionals. In other words, our school would not run without our support staff. Thank you!
We are thankful for our Citizens of the Month who were: Riley Petesch (sixth), Bianca Dally (seventh), Brady Hinthorn, Joel Cowley, Sarah Michalski (eighth), and Val Sorensen and Kelly Hinthorn (staff). They showed a tremendous amount of Responsibility during the month of October.
We can thank our parents for attending conferences with us and giving us suggestions and feedback on how to improve what we do. We had a large turnout of parents during our conference days to not only check on their children’s progress but also to give us their perspective on how we are doing and what we may do differently in order to be more successful.
We are thankful for our counselor, Ms. Norwood, who sponsors Red Ribbon Week every year to encourage our students to stay away from drugs and alcohol. She creates a yearly door decorating competition for students to focus on staying drug free. This year we had some great doors and the students were creating great themes and sayings about how to stay drug free during Halloween.
We are thankful for our Leadership class who sponsored and coordinated our Halloween Activity Day and Dance. It was an awesome sight to see so many students dressed up and enjoying the last hour of school participating in various activities. We are thankful for DJ Jerry who created a great stage for music and dancing and playing songs students wanted to hear We are thankful for our band who treated us to a spaghetti feed and concert and continue to engage their students with a field trip to NIC for the Gathering of the Bands event. The students continue to grow and play great music for us.
We are thankful for the lottery who allowed our staff to participate in the Scratch for Schools event which saw Mr. Bonnell and Mr. Garrison scratch 600 lottery tickets to raise almost $400 for our school.
We are thankful for the Book Fair our wonderful library coordinated for our school.
We are thankful for our teachers who come up with great events for our students to do while in school including taking part in Socratic Seminars discussing the merits of self-driving vehicles.
We are thankful to our wrestling coaches who are having a great season so far and hosting wrestling matches at home for our community to see. The next one is Nov. 28.
We are thankful for our First Lego League Robotics club who will be hosting a home tournament on December 9! We are thankful for our other upcoming events: Band concert on Dec. 14, Midterms on Dec. 14, Choir concert on Dec. 18, and our winter break activity day (last day before winter break) on Dec. 21.
