100 Year

The county commissioners are asking bids for the slashing and clearing of the right-of-way of a proposed road from Copeland to Addie. Bids will be received up to December 9th. Slashing is to be 30 feet wide and stumping to be 20 feet wide.

“Eighty carloads of concentrated and crude ore were produced by the Idaho-Continental company in the three months ended on October 27 last,” said A. Klockmann. “The average content of each car was 40 tons and the average metallic content was 60 percent lead and 22 ounces of silver to the ton. The crude ore contained 58 to 70 percent and the slimes 68 to 70 percent lead. Total shipments to date number 170 carloads.

City firemen were summoned last Sunday afternoon to extinguish a fire which badly damaged a car owned by Dewayne Vandenberg.

The body of Thomas Neil Belgrade, 51, apparently a transient passenger on a Great Northern railway freight train, was found last Friday morning along the tracks inside a GN tunnel about eight miles east of Bonners Ferry, near the Katka-Crossport area. It was not definitely determined whether the victim fell or jumped from the train. Death resulted from head injuries.

It was announced Wednesday that the new Bargain Giant supermarket will open for business again next Monday morning. The attractive new store, modernized and changed in design, replaces the old store that was destroyed by fire June 6th.

For the second time in one week, Boundary County Junior High school was the victim of what Bonners Ferry Police are calling “purely malicious vandalism” that has left the school reeling with thousands of dollars in estimated damages. And in what may be a related incident, police are also investigating a break-in and burglary at Bonners Ferry High School where thieves gained access through a window in the Voc. Ag. Room and stole $1,900 raised from the annual FFA Harvest Auction.

The streets of Bonners Ferry are getting safer by the minute. For the third time in a month, quick thinking by the Bonners Ferry Police Department during a routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of an out-of-state couple on felony drug charges for allegedly possessing two grams of methamphetamine and three grams of marijuana.
