BONNERS FERRY — Magicians Custom Paint and Auto Body Shop moved into town from the top of North Hill to a building located adjacent to Riverside Auto Center in April 2017.

Wayne and Nancy Nash moved to Bonners Ferry from Tulsa, Okla., about seven years ago. Wayne Nash’s brother had been living in Boundary County for many years, and invited Wayne and Nancy Nash for a vacation.

“My brother has been trying to get us to move here for about 20 years. On the way back to the airport, after our visit, we passed Cabela’s and I said give me two weeks to wrap up some jobs, and I’m moving up here, been here ever since,” said Wayne Nash.

Wayne Nash comes from a long line of carpenters, and also owns W&S Home Improvement.

“I am a fifth generation carpenter, my great-great-grandfather was an architect for the Queen of England. He designed the very first steel bridge in the world,” said Wayne Nash.

The abundance of tradesmen in carpentry rendered the field difficult to make a living on, so he decided to go to trade school and learn to do paint and body work after graduating high school in 1984. Wayne Nash also worked in an auto body shop for a couple years, which not only taught him the trade, but prompted him to pursue it and open his own shop.

Wayne Nash went on to trade school, where he earned his degree in Paint and Body. He continues to keep up with the changing field by taking classes every so often in order to learn the new tricks and trends in order to keep all of his customers happy.

“Every so often they upgrade you. Every few years they have you take a class and learn the newest tricks and the easier ways of doing it, and the newer technology. Last time I did that was May or June of this year,” said Wayne Nash.

Magicians Custom Paint and Body Shop offers a lifetime guarantee on all of their paint jobs and work.

With eyes on the future, Wayne and Nancy Nash purchased the building and included Nancy Nash’s son, Tony Gould, into the business. Gould is currently serving the country in the United States Navy, and upon concluding his service, they plan to have Gould step up as the standing owner.

“He has been to paint school, but I’ll be teaching him all the old school stuff. There is a lot of stuff that I know how to do that the younger generation doesn’t know. I’ve seen the field change multiple times, so keeping up on it is imperative. I plan on teaching him the old techniques so that if someone comes in and they want to make it look old, then he can,” said Wayne Nash. “We’re here to stay.”

With plans for the future, the Nash family has their eyes on the prizes of upholding successful businesses, and continuing to serve their customers with quality and friendly work.
