Jordan Young tops BFHS record
BONNERS FERRY — With a deep breath in, and an exhale of equal magnitude blown out, Jordan Young has traversed the rise and fall of the terrain she was assigned to run with gusto as she leads the field for the Badger Girls Cross Country team throughout the season.
The spark for her love for running began when Young began playing for the Badgers Girl’s Soccer team as a Freshman under former Coach Erin Delude. Delude saw the potential in Young and encouraged her to go on long distance runs with the company of Lindsey Hart.
“I just enjoyed running,” said Young
Afterward, Young was roped into running the 800 meter in track, which encouraged her to run every day with the distance runners, where Young gained her second wind, and felt the passion of pushing her body to the limits.
Young is now celebrating the accomplishment of beating her personal best record, but has also stepped up her game, beating the Bonners Ferry High School’s record for the 5 kilometer distance with the time of 19:30. She overcame the record set by Melody Braden who finished the distance with the time of 19:51 in 2007 at the State Competition in Lewiston. Both young women ran in Lewiston, Idaho, but on different courses of the same distance.
“Coach Warner helped me out a lot this year, along with having a supportive team, also really helped,” said Young. “I would like to send out a big thank you to Linda and Roland Hall for sending me to elite running camps. You helped me a lot to get me to where I am.”
With self discipline and drive, this young lady has accomplished the immediate goals that lay in front of her, and continues to work toward completing the ones down the road, one foot in front of the other.
