On Monday evening, Sept. 4, a person contacted the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office, reporting they had seen a woman fall from the north side of the railroad trestle into the Kootenai River. Sergeant Willie Cowell from the Bonners Ferry Police Department responded to the call, along with Boundary Ambulance Captain and Paramedic Kelly Halleman and his crew.

The reporting party said that the women was about 15-20 feet from the bank and that she started floating down the river, calling for help.

“PD responded up to North River Road and was able to see the woman floating in the water across from Spokane Street,” explained Cowell. “She floated close enough to the rock outcrop and we were able to pull her to us.”

It was almost completely dark by the time the woman was pulled from the river. Thanks to the quick response from the Bonners Ferry Police Department and Boundary Ambulance, they averted a potentially tragic outcome.
