BONNERS FERRY — After a week off due to a canceled meet last week because of the heavy smoke, the Bonners Ferry High School boys and girls cross country team was excited to get back on the course this past Saturday.

“Oh yeah! It was fun to get back out there!” said by senior Jordan Young.

The Coeur D’ Alene Invite is a more challenging course with hills and diverse terrain. There were 14 teams to attend the meet including several Washington schools which allowed for strong competition.

“For us to get that sort of competition at this point in the year is really good for our team.” said Bonners Ferry High School Cross Country Coach Tyler Warner.

Runners, Jordan Young, Abigail Gorton, Lauren Stidham, Ada Bonnel, Lauren Onstott, Serenity Fahey, Austin Donn, Ryne Rae, Hunter Smith, and Lane Stidham broke their personal record for this season so far.

Young was the top runner for the girl’s varsity team receiving second in the small school division with a time of 20:14, and junior, Sam Gorton was the top runner for the boy’s varsity team with a time of 19:44.

Other varsity girls’ times include, Abigail Gorton (21:57), Lauren Stidham (24:13), Ada Bonnel (24:30), Serenity Fahey (26:12), and Lauren Onstott (28:02).

The varsity boys’ times include Austin Donn (19:47), Lane Stidham (19:58), Ryne Rae (20:20), Bobby Hart (20:21), and Hunter Smith (20:33).

While attending the meet, the Bonners Ferry Cross Country team was also able to participate in a tribute to Freeman High School where a student-involved shooting took place last week.

The Badgers will be running again next Tuesday, September 26 at Priest River.
