BONNERS FERRY — “The Boundary County Fire Chief’s Association wanted a logo because we never had our own,” said North Bench Fire Chief Gus Jackson.

They took the idea to some of the local schools and held a “Design Off”. The winning design would be used on patches that are 4-6 inches tall or wide.

The students were asked that the logo design should reflect their mission statement: “To further the professional advancement of the fire service, to insure and maintain greater protection of life and property from fire, natural and man-made disaster, or other sudden emergencies. Promote the development of the fire service, through a progressive program of education, public relations and research. Cooperate with all organizations to promote programs that further the goals and objectives of the fire service.”

From the submissions, they chose the top three designs, awarding cash prizes of $100, $50, and $25 to the winners on April 20, at the Idaho Department of Lands.

The first place winner was Porter Blackmore, second place went to Kari Helmuth, and third place was Anthony Overholt.

“We actually combined the top three into one logo,” said Jackson. “We had some great participation and ended up with a really cool logo in the process.”

The logo is now on the website: www.boundarycountyfire.com
