Don James Memorial Mixed Doubles Tournament a success

BONNERS FERRY — On Saturday, July 28, the Boundary County Tennis Association hosted a 10-team, 20-player mixed doubles round robin tournament in honor and in memory of our friend Don James.

Each team played five rounds with the top four teams making the semifinals.

Semifinal teams were Mike Kelly and Julie Newsome, Roger Alexander and Jenni Dougherty, Scott Fontenot and Cat Abrego and Mike Hubbard and Karen Armstrong. Fontenot and Abrego defeated Kelly and Newsome in the first semifinal and Hubbard and Armstrong defeated Alexander and Dougherty in the second semifinal. In the final Hubbard and Armstrong, proved too strong for Fontenot and Abrego, winning the title.

All players enjoyed a barbecue lunch and potluck meal after the preliminary rounds.
