Battle Grounds brings battle ready coffee

BONNERS FERRY — “Come on in and get a good ol’ fresh cup of joe,” said Sarah Jenkins, who is the new owner of the coffee stand, Battle Grounds, located next to Mr. Suds Car Wash.
After years of privately hosting the idea to own a coffee and breakfast business, Jenkins surprised some people by purchasing the coffee stand.
“I talked to my close friends and family saying I need a change. Do you think this town can handle a fourth coffee stand?’” said Jenkins.
One friend responded with an honest answer — which was “no” — and proceeded to inform Jenkins about the shop next to Mr. Suds Car Wash that was for sale. One thing led to another, and within a matter of days, the business was hers.
The business serves a wide variety of espresso coffee options including white coffee, teas, Italian sodas, frappes, and drip coffee, to name a few, alongside a variety of food options from Yoder’s Market-made breakfast burritos to popular frozen stuffed pastries under the ‘Chow Hall’ portion of the menu.
Both Sarah Jenkins and her husband, Ryan Jenkins, are originally from the Boundary County area, and after the nomadic life of an active military lifestyle, the family looked for a place to move away from the hustle and bustle of large cities and settle down to raise their children. After ruling out some prospects, they ended up choosing Bonners Ferry. To make the deal sweeter, was the job opportunity for her husband as an X-Ray Technician at Boundary Community Hospital.
Sarah Jenkins has taken what was an already successful business and added her own flair. Being a military wife has left its everlasting mark on her, and she has dedicated the theme of her recently purchased business around it.
The Battle Grounds Coffee stand pays tribute to members of the military, police forces, firefighters, and all first responders. Jenkins plans to cover the walls inside the shop with photos of those that put their lives on the line, and wants to include the community in honoring those that sacrifice their time and lives by displaying photos on the walls and hearing the stories from those visiting the business.
Sarah Jenkins features daily themes, such as Mandatory Fun Day, accompanied with drink and food specials. She cleverly named the sizes of coffee after ranks in the U.S. Army, small being Private, then Sergeant, Colonel, General, and President being the largest size.
A major change that she made in the coffee stand was not just the names and the paint, but the brand of coffee she uses. After lots of deliberation and input from people around her, Sarah Jenkins made the decision to use veteran owned, Black Rifle Coffee Company.
The Black Rifle Coffee Company has pushed past the boundaries of race, origin, and religion, and brought together a team of people that not only support the U.S.A., but cherish it. With their ordering process, the beans are roasted the same day they are shipped out, ensuring freshness and high quality coffee.
Fighting alongside someone in real combat brings a certain inexplicable camaraderie, a brotherhood or sisterhood in which the bonds are as strong as those in a family. That family extends beyond the warriors and brings their families together to support one another, to be there in times of hardship and celebration, to bring company to a lonely partner. There is a wide network of support for those in the armed forces, and Battle Grounds is bringing their support network to Boundary County in the form of coffee and friendship.
Adding to the already strong support system in the community, Battle Grounds is open for coffee, food, friendship, and camaraderie, as well as offering military discounts.
