Janet Kay Vickaryous

Janet Kay Vickaryous, age 78, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Janet was born on April 19, 1940 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Alice (Rhoades) and Adam Wilke. The youngest of nine children, she graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1958. On Dec. 26, 1959, she married Donald B. Vickaryous. Together they had five children. Don and Janet were married 53 years until his death in 2013.

Janet (aka “Granny”) was a kind, generous, funny, feisty, spitfire whose talent for feeding a crowd was as legendary as her lively personality. She possessed a singular ability to bring out the best in others and, both despite and because of her honesty, nearly everyone who knew her considered her a special friend.

A life-long mother and homemaker, she was gifted with children and a renowned baby whisperer. Devoted to her family, Janet cherished the time she spent with her husband, children, brothers and sisters, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She adored her friends and loved to travel, especially to the coast. With a spirited and endearing competitiveness, she excelled at playing cards and games. Reading, gardening, puzzles, family dinners, and going to the movies were some of her favorite past times. An active member of St. Ann’s parish, she enjoyed attending Mass and church functions.

Janet is survived by her five children: Ray (Sherri) Vickaryous, Barry (Wendy) Vickaryous, Shelly (Rex) Hoisington, Tammy (Mark) Benson, Carol (Dan) Ross, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several of her siblings. The family would like to extend our gratitude to Hospice of North Idaho for their consideration and care at the end of Janet’s life.
