Town Marshal C.R. Knight made several arrests on Thursday night for violations of the state prohibition laws. Charles Mills and Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. McCarthy were taken in charge at the Casey Hotel. Mills on the charge of transporting liquor here and the McCarthy’s for possession. Mark Shewfeldt and William Merchant were taken in tow for drunkenness. The next day they pled guilty and were fined $25 each and costs. Mills and the McCarthy’s were bound over to district court. Mills had 10 quarts of whiskey in his possession and the authorities have proof that he was in the bootlegging business. He is under $500. Bond.
L.N. Brown states that the cedar dealers in this district are having a hard time finding a market for cedar posts. One dealer who recently returned from the mid-west states, reports that the farmers are not buying posts because they are unable to get barbed or plain wire as the government has commandeered the output for use in protecting the trenches of the Americans and the Allies in France. The situation is not likely to improve until the war is over. Many farmers and homesteaders depend on sales of cedar products to secure money.
The members of the first August contingent left Wednesday for Camp Fremont, Calif. And a large crowd was at the train to bid the boys good-bye and good luck. These included- Glenn Wesley King, Porthill; Charles F. Stein, B.F.; James Roden, Meadow Creek; James C. Bush, B.F.; Paul Bradshaw, Addie; Joseph Neumayer, Porthill; George C. Moore, Naples; Henry Harris, Addie; and Robert W. Ames, Porthill.

The Bonners Ferry ranger station of the Kaniksu National Forest reported Wednesday that crews have been set out to fight eight fires in the district thus far this fire season. With a 24-man crew presently carrying on mopping up operations on a 12 acre man caused fire that started Monday at Dawson Ridge.
The Practical Nurse Advisory Board announces the completion of the course for the Practical Nurse class of 1968. The following graduates are Mmes. Jeanette Belmore, JoAnn Farber, Majorie Guthrie, Toni Hippe, Patricia Schoolcraft, and Marsha Jensen. Instructor for the class was Mrs. Donna Poston, R.N.
It was announced Wednesday that four local men have received approval to operate an International Harvester dealership to serve Bonners Ferry. The partners in the new business are E.E. “Bud” Bauman, Alvin Maas, Glen Halverson, and Tom Smith. They have operated as the North Hill Service and Equipment Company at a location on the North Bench for about two months.

Boundary Co’s unemployment rate soars to 12.9% -- third highest in the state – only Adams Co at 14.9% had higher figures.
A local Korean War Veteran was honored recently in South Korea, “It was the experience of a lifetime” said former second Engine man, Richard L. Krogh. It was a week of special events honoring the 50th anniversary of the end of the conflict.
BFHS Seniors take 2nd place at Hoopfest in Spokane. The team was Rhys Sandaker, Joe Lowther, Casey Dicks and Jacob High.
