Restorium residents get new wheels

BONNERS FERRY — Living in an area where community members come together and support one another, not only brings people together, but shows a form of support similar to that of a family. Within the community of Boundary County, there may not be a lot of residents, but there is an ample supply of support for everyone, young, old, long time residents, and newcomers.
Over the past years, the Friends of the Restorium have brought people together to raise funds which support the elderly at the Boundary County Community Restorium. They recently held another annual fundraiser picnic, which provided community members a chance to show their support and visit the residents. The proceeds of their fundraisers have provided the Restorium with a new means of transportation — a bus that seats 12, and is equipped with a wheelchair lift and, in addition, will accommodate two wheelchairs.
Wishing to have the project done by the time of the Boundary County Fair, all parties involved assisted with coordinating the decals, licensing, and all aspects of readying the van for the residents to have a fun day out.
The local fair is an attraction to many people of all ages. The Restorium wanted to bring their residents the joy and adventure of the fair, and having a new form of transportation that catered to the residents needs, offers them the chance to bring adventure to the restorium residents.
“As the culmination of several years of hard work and dedication by the Friends of the Restorium and the community as a whole, the we are proud to donate this van to the Boundary Community Restorium and the residents of the facility,” stated President of the Friends of the Restorium, Jeannie Robinson in the official letter to the commissioners during the ceremonies.
The funds for the van were raised through fundraisers, memberships, community donors, endowments, and other gifts made to the Friends of the Restorium. Their main goal for obtaining the van was to do what they could in order to enhance the lives of the residents, and providing a form of group transportation would do just that.
“The community should be proud of this accomplishment that it helped bring to fruition and the Friends of the Restorium look forward to watching the Restorium residents enjoy this gift for many years to come,” said Robinson.
