First half property taxes due by Dec. 20

| December 13, 2018 12:00 AM

Boundary County Treasurer Susan M Larson would like to remind all Boundary County taxpayers that the deadline for paying the first half of the 2018 property taxes without penalty is Thursday, Dec. 20.

Tax notices were mailed in November and may be paid in two installments; the first half by Dec. 20 and the remainder by June 20, 2019. Any portion of the assessed tax may be paid at any time, but if there is a remaining balance on the first half after Dec. 20, a two-percent late charge is immediately applied. After January 1, interest of one percent per month is added.

Tax payments can be mailed to the Treasurer’s Office at P.O. Box 218, and we are located in the Boundary County Courthouse at 6452 Kootenai St., in downtown Bonners Ferry. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payments that are mailed to the Treasurer’s Office must be postmarked by December 20, 2018 to avoid penalty.

MasterCard, Discover and Visa cards are accepted in our office. If the office is closed, you may pay by telephone with a credit card through Official Payments Corporation. Their phone number is 1-877-203-6083. You will be asked to enter your bill number, a daytime phone number, year of tax bill you are paying, amount you are paying, and your credit card information. We also have PayStation and Official Payments on our website. There is a “Convenience Fee” for these services.
