Fond memories of Bonners Ferry

| December 20, 2018 12:00 AM

Dear Friends, I’m taking the easy way out. I don’t like goodbyes- love the hugs but don’t like the tears- I have shed too many of them already in my life time.

Roy and I moved to Bonners Ferry in 1958 with three small children. They grew to nine grandkids, 29 great-grandkids (six adopted) and two great-greats. Low and behold I do not have any family left in Bonners Ferry so they decided I need to move nearer to family.

I have great memories of Bonners Ferry- Cub and Boy Scouts, Little League, American Legion baseball, 4-H, fairs, parades, rodeos, grade school and high school activities, neighborhood parties, our bowling leagues, bridge clubs, duplicate bridge at Davidson’s or Walter’s — the Snowball dance every winter in the upstairs of the Legion Club, our Lutheran Church and activities (you actually dressed up to go to church), the guys making last minute plans to go to the lake and the gals having to pack the picnic lunch (fried chicken, potato salad and trimmings) — now you pick it up at the grocery store, the New Year’s Eve parties at the Taft’s. LeRoy, Hod and Roy did whatever came to mind and it was usually a laugh a minute.

All good memories but some not so good — the 60’s we lost a lot of close friends, way too young that left a lot of small children without a dad. A hard time for our town. I can shut my eyes and mentally go up and down every street and tell you who used to live there. The majority of them have gone home to a better place.

When you grow old and can’t take an active part in life anymore, I am glad we made so many memories. That’s all we have left, so make them while you can!

As the saying goes, “Goodbye is not forever. Goodbye is not the end. It simply means I’ll miss you till we meet again.”

God Bless, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
