Doris Kathryn Troxel

Doris Kathryn Troxel passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour with family at her side on Jan. 23, 2018, at the age of 91.

Doris was born in McIntosh, Minn., on Oct. 18, 1926, one of five children, and enjoyed a happy childhood on the family farm. As a young woman she became a registered nurse and her passion for caring for people remained her entire life. She loved to learn new things and in 1947 obtained her pilot’s license and enjoyed flying single engine airplanes!

She married Jack Troxel in 1951 and raised two sons while helping with various family businesses and still working at her chosen profession. Later in life, when she was no longer able to work, she volunteered her time and service to Hospice and spent many hours helping others cope with their loss.

Doris has six grandchildren but many more who would claim her as their “grandma.” She was kind and loving and children were naturally drawn to her. She would pick them up for Sunday school and take them home for lunch afterward. She spent hours playing games, riding bikes or showing them how to cook and bake and sew. Doris was an amazing gardener and shared her expertise with anyone who was interested. She was generous with others but frugal with herself and was into recycling long before it became a thing! She could make a meal out of whatever was handy and you could be sure it was healthy. Doris was very sociable; she loved people and they loved her back.

She will be greatly missed by her two sons and families, Brian (Linda) Troxel and Steve (Lisa) Troxel, grandson Nathan (Kate) Troxel, granddaughter Carmen (Morgan) Dunnet, grandson Tim (Rani) Troxel, granddaughter Samantha (Jerry) Johnson, and grandsons Stephen Alex Troxel and Thomas Troxel. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Adelaide Troxel, Willem Troxel, Eve Dunnet, Faith Johnson, Liam Johnson and Rowan Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband Jack Troxel in 2010.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at McPherson Funeral Services, 220 2nd Street South, Cranbrook, BC.
