Well known Curley Creek Matron, Mrs. Jennie Lang died last Thursday of chronic heart trouble.

The rotating heel is the latest in footwear. It is made to do away with the problem of heels worn down on one side. A short but heavy bolt screwing through threaded plates into the center of the heel and into the shoe holds the heel firmly on. When one side of the heel starts to wear, you just loosen the bolt with a screwdriver and turn the heel around. The heels, of course, are made round and not the usual shape.
The basketball game scheduled for last Friday with Newport was called off when two of the B.F. players came down with smallpox. Their illnesses will prevent the team from going to Montana this week. Dr. Fry states there are only four cases in Boundary County and all the patients are getting along nicely. Sandpoint has quite an epidemic of small pox and our cases were contracted when Sandpoint came here to play — one of their players having been sick at the time.

Schools are closed as the area gets deep snow. It was announced by Richard Haworth, Superintendent that schools were closed Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. A cold front moved into the area over the weekend with the temperature dropping to 2 degrees; then the snow started to fall, accumulating more than 19 inches by Wednesday. Strong winds were reported in the northern section of the county.
One man was injured in a three-truck crash about 12 miles north of B.F. at the bottom of the Rock Creek Hill on Highway 95. A truck from Corsicana, Texas stalled on the road and a cattle hauling truck from Coeur d’Alene was unable to stop and hit that truck. An Allied Van Lines truck then slid into the other trucks. The driver of the stalled truck was taken to the hospital for a back injury. Traffic was completely tied up for nearly 3 hours while workers were clearing the roadway.
Bids were opened last week for reconstruction of the West Side Road from Copeland north for 4.8 miles. The winning bid was submitted by J.D. Dutton Co. of Olympia for $334,133. It is part of a road system to replace the river ferries at Copeland and Porthill. One more contract will be necessary to gravel this project and construct the remaining 5 miles to the Smith Creek-Boundary Creek road junction.
Kiwanis Basketball Program begins with 95 players and eight teams — six in town and two at Mt. Hall. The coaches of the town teams are No. 1 Harv Pedey and Irv Dinning, No. 2 Roy Day and Russ Docherty, No. 3 Gary Macomb and Phil Kelson, No. 4 Hod Sanborn and Chris Taft, No. 5 Bill Nixon and Bob Lenker, No. 6 Wayne Tucker and Mike Smith. Coaches of the Mr. Hall teams will be published next week.

Safe Sitter Course to graduate 10 — Boundary Community Hospital is pleased to announce the graduation of 10 Safe Sitters. The Safe Sitters course was developed especially for 11 to 13 year olds to answer all their questions about baby-sitting.
Variety Show Sign-ups — The Friends of the Arts (formerly Friends of the Fry) is a group of local citizens dedicated to the arts in Boundary County by raising money towards equipment and promoting local and professional performing arts. We will be sponsoring a variety show to raise money for improvements to the Fry Auditorium, such as ceiling fans and drapery tracking with a pulley system.
Badgers power their way into first place in a breathtaking finish that went down to the wire, the Bonners Ferry Badgers took over sole possession of first place in Intermountain League boys basketball, knocking off visiting St. Maries 51-42 in overtime Jan. 25.
