Bath-ologie makes scents for customers

BONNERS FERRY — There are several local people who are distributors of a Multi-Level Marketing company — one of whom is Teresa Norman, a distributor and consultant for Bath-ologie.

Bath-ologie is a company where you can participate in a blending bar, which enables the customer to create their own scents for different home-related items, such as lotions or candles. The product begins completely scent free, and with the help of the consultant, the customer can mix their own scents to add to the product. There are 120 different fragrances to choose from, and the customer can combine three to create their own unique experience. The company also allows customers to create their own customized labels. The containers are made of recycled materials and all of the products are made in the United States.

“Our products are chemical free, no chemical dyes, vegan, gluten free, paraben free, and phthalate free,” said Norman.

Bath-ologie is an up-and-coming MLM company with about a thousand consultants. The company’s three year anniversary is in September. With the company being so new, Norman got her foot in the door early, and is the only consultant in the area, with the next closest being in Creston, Canada. Their products range from lotion, to linen and air sprays, to candles.

Speaking about how she found the company, Norman said, “A couple years ago I was making lip balm, epsom salt baths, and fragranced bath products for family and friends. I was looking up more recipes, and came across Bath-ologie. I absolutely loved the concept and I found a consultant in Creston and decided to host a blending bar party. I loved it and the concept of it, so I was like, I’m in!”

Norman hosts parties which showcase the products and allows potential customers to smell the scents as well as sample the product such as the lotion.

“I love the lotion because it is not greasy, it is wonderful and silky, I haven’t had anyone say that they didn’t like the lotion,” Norman explained about the product that got her hooked to this company.

“My favorite product is the lotion, but there are body butters and creams as well. Many people have been leaning towards the bath bombs,” said Norman.

The company also offers face and body scrubs.

This past October, the company was promoting a fundraiser by selling bath bombs for cancer awareness, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to breast cancer research. The distributors did not earn a commission for those sales. Every penny went to support breast cancer research, and in that way, Norman was able to give back to the community through her business.

Most of her sales are in person. She can tell people about it, but until they can see it, sit down and try it, they may not be interested.

“You can’t sell a scent on Facebook,” said Norman. “Direct sales are not easy. You have to really want to and love the product. I love this product and that gives me the passion to market it.”

With her passion for the products, Norman also keeps her customers well-being in mind. Not only is this company and its products based in the U.S., they cater toward healthy alternatives to many store bought lotions, and offer customers a hypoallergenic alternative, which people with and without skin conditions may benefit from.

“All of our products are slightly different in ingredients, so if someone were to have an allergy to one, I would steer them away from that product,” said Norman. “Some of our larger bath bombs are colored, but they are colored with natural ingredients such as the coconut lime bath bomb which is colored with coconut shell for its color.”

Founder of the company, Stacy Madsen, as a new mother of a child suffering from skin allergies, set out on a mission to find a product that did not contain harmful chemicals. Finding a product that was pure and plant based, she found to be a challenge. After sharing her experience with family and friends, Madsen founded the Bath-ologie in 2011, with the motto, “Be envied for your skin and remembered for your signature scent.”
