Break up road closures may come soon

| February 8, 2018 12:00 AM

Greetings,

Once again it is the time of the year we need to think about break up road closures. Trust me; it is not my favorite part of this job. Temperatures are warming up and hard surfaced roads are soaking in the sunshine and a surface thaw will begin. Cold nights will slow it down.

Please be proactive and start planning ahead for the closure of roads. We will try to give good notice; however we can’t predict the weather. The road will be closed to hauling 24 hours after the posting is up. From that day forward a permit will be required for hauling on a closed road. The permits will be available at no charge from the Road and Bridge office at 73 Sunrise Road. The office is open 6 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office phone is 208-267-3838.

If the warming trend continues we will be closing roads as needed, posting as early as Feb. 5. There is a 24 hour grace period after posting. The allowable gross of the permitted vehicle will be based on 300 pounds per inch of tire width. When the temperatures stays below 26 degrees Fahrenheit for a period of six hours we will be issuing permits for normally legal loads on an individual basis for early morning use. If the temperature stays below 26 degrees F. for six hours and the temperature doesn’t rise above freezing we will look into all day use for normal legal loads. There is no charge for the permit. Permits are available through the Road and Bridge office. Traveling with a load on a closed road without a permit is a citable offence. REMEMBER, A VALID PERMIT MUST BE IN THE VEHICLE!

Check our road closure list, “Spring Road Closures,” on the Road and Bridge link on the Boundary County web site: http://www.boundarycountyid.org Please consider, just because a posting mysteriously disappears does not mean the road is open. Please check with us. Thank you for your patience and consideration.
