COEUR d’ALENE — In the first round of the 3A District 1 tournament Monday, Feb. 19 at North Idaho College, the Timberlake Tigers beat the Bonners Ferry Badgers 51-39.

Chris Sabin led Bonners Ferry with 15 points.

Following the loss, the 9-12 Badgers faced 2-19 Priest River Wednesday, Feb. 21, in a loser-out game that finished after The Herald went to press.

“I thought we started out pretty good in this game. We attacked the rim early and got them in some foul trouble. We struggled to score and made some mistakes down the stretch and could not get back into the game,” said Coach Andy Rice. “We play Priest River on Wednesday in a loser out game. The winner will take on the loser of the championship game between Kellogg and Timberlake.”

In regular-season action, the Badger boys played at Timberlake on Feb. 15 in an Intermountain League game and lost 46-33.

“We went down to Timberlake hoping to pick up a win and force a coin flip for seeding going into districts,” said Rice. “In our first meeting Colton Counts put up 28 points against us, at 6-foot-5 we don’t match up very well. We did a better job of stopping him but they moved the ball well and found the open guys when we doubled him.”
