BONNERS FERRY — The Lady Badgers played the host West Valley Eagles on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the 84-team West Valley Holiday Tournament. And while the Badgers battled to an impressive 33-30 halftime lead, they seemed to run out of gas, and lost with 63-55.

“We looked great in the first half, but looked a little tired in the second half,” said Coach Travis Hinthorn.

Miranda Wenk led the Badgers with 18 points and 9 rebounds before fouling out late in the game. Kadi Bateman also had 9 rebounds to go along with her 13 points.

The girls did not have much time to dwell on their Wednesday night loss as they were scheduled to play the Colville Indians early Thursday morning. The girls recovered well, winning 64-41, and were led by Miranda Wenk, who continued her offensive improvement with 27 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Badgers. Kassy Skeen added 12 points, and Kady Bateman contributed 6 assists. The Lady Badgers dominated the glass and outrebounded Colville 45-22.

“Miranda had a great game at the high post and had a lot of off-side offensive putbacks,” said Hinthorn. “The girls did a great job of looking inside and finding her against both their man and zone. I thought we came out pretty fired up after a short turn-around from Wednesday’s loss.”

The Badgers hope to have a full gym as they welcome the first home and league game of 2018. JV games will begin at 3 p.m., and varsity games start around 6 p.m..
