Omar Huton, commonly known as “Tamarack” was placed under arrest by Sheriff Dunning on the charge of having sold intoxicants. Two men residing at the Riverside Hotel said he had sold them whiskey. One man also claimed to have been robbed but later found his purse. Mr. Huton’s trial is set for 10 am on Wednesday. He furnished $400 cash bonds.

W. L. Kinnear, pioneer merchant of Bonners Ferry and the owner of large real estate interests is seriously ill with a diagnosis of appendicitis.
50 Years Ago
County’s first baby of ’68 arrives on Jan. 18. Julianne Renee Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Clark of B.F. was born at 1 p.m. Dr. F.W. Durose was the attending physician.
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Coble, former B.F. residents who now teach at Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, announce the marriage of their daughter, Claudia, to Harley Swain of Coos Bay, Ore., on Dec. 18.
The home of Ralph Lockman was destroyed by fire last Thursday. The home was located at the foot of the hill going up to Grandview Cemetery. Mr. Lockman, an elderly man, was out of town and the house was unoccupied. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Mrs. Luther Anderson, 63, passed away at the local hospital last Friday, following a two-car collision about 1 mile south of B.F. on Highway 95. Her husband and 2 girls riding in the car were also injured but not seriously.
Edward D. Burkholder Sr., 78, longtime B.F. resident, passed away Jan. 18 following a year of failing health. Mr. Burkholder was born in Own Sound, Ontario and moved to B.F. in 1920. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
Retirement Party is held for Bill Clark — who retired from the Forest Service after 13 years as a scaler. Bill and his wife, Mary, moved to Boundary County in 1942 and resided at Moyie Springs before moving to B.F. Dinner at Don’s Café was enjoyed by about 50 co-workers, friends and relatives.

Naples man bound over on first degree murder. Enough evidence exists to try a 58-year old man for first degree murder in the shooting death of his neighbor stemming from a bitter dispute over a private access road. That’s what Magistrate Judge John Julian ruled after a full day of testimony last Friday when he found sufficient evidence to bind over Henry L. Ryder for the Aug. 12 shooting of Frederick Orval Cooper, 47.
Kootenai tribal members show students some “fancy dancing.” Four Native American dancers whirled into Bonners Ferry High School gym in full-feather to celebrate human rights Jan. 16.
Low snowpack to affect power product in Spring — although there is some snow in the short-term weather forecast, Avista is projecting that a low snowpack this year will affect power production in the spring.
