The contract for the construction of a 2 room, one story brick school house with full basement was awarded recently by the trustees of School Dist. #15, Moravia to contractor C.D. Rowell of Spokane and a former resident of this city. Mister Rowell secured this work on his bid of $6,200. Work has already started, the excavation of the basement is done and work is being done on the concrete foundations.
Chautauqua Program Coming to B.F. on Aug. 3-8 - There is no doubt that the program of the Ellison- White Chautauqua excels all previous years. The N.Y. City Marine Band will give at least 2 concerts. The Apollo Concert Co. will give delightful entertainment. The Metropolitan Artists will appear in songs and instrumental numbers. The Royal Hawaiian Quartet is one of the best and the Schubert Serenaders are one of the most prominent musical organizations of the eastern states. There will be various speakers on patriotism and the war as well as astronomy. For the children there will be a Mother Goose Festival on the last night.
The Boundary Co. draft men called for July will leave for Camp Lewis on the Great Northern passenger train #43 on Monday, July 22. Following are the names of the boys: Albert Walter, B.F.; Paul S. Pattison, Los Angeles, Ca.; Ralph G. Brooks, Moravia; Samuel Evanoff, Parker, Wash.; Walter J. Parker, B.F.; Roy C. King, Porthill; Bryce Chapen, Copeland; Wilhelm Granwick, Seattle; Frank C. Chapen, Copeland; Joe Neves, Kahlotus, Wash.; Roy L. McPherson, B.F.; Oliver Graham, McArthur; John D. Collins , B.F. The B.F. Red Cross will give a farewell dance in honor of the draft boys on Saturday evening at the K.P. Hall. Dancing will begin at 9:00 and continue till midnight. Refreshments will be served. Tickets are $1.00 and everyone is invited.

Forest Fire situation is seen as critical again according to Neil Howarth, Ranger Bonners Ferry District.
Hugh C. Harrison, 34, was released from the county jail Monday on $500 bond after being apprehended following an attempted robbery at Bargain Giant store.
Over 80 county 4-H Club members departed by bus and truck last Sunday for 4-H camp on Chatcolet Lake, returning on Wednesday. The camping program an integral part of 4-H Club work, is directed at giving youth an educational experience outside the normal schedule of activities in the home club.
Members of the Bonners Ferry Boat Club can be thanked for the rescue of five youngsters, all teenagers, near the Club’s Smokey Acres campground on the Pend Oreille River last Thursday, July 4.

Still reeling from the effects of Idaho’s troubled lumber industry, Boundary County’s unemployment picture took another turn for the worse as it hit double digits for the first time this year, at 10%.
Mayor Kerby and ITD district engineer break ground near the high school as the $900,000 Hwy 95 project on the South Hill got underway Monday. Stretching from Tammarch Street by BFHS to Augusta Street, the half mile project that includes widening the highway and installing sidewalks is expected to be completed by mid – to late September.
Former Bonners Ferry High School basketball standouts, Taylor Cody and Julie Ann Bateman, who played for North Idaho College Women’s basketball team, were named to the school’s academic honor roll.
