On July 16, shortly after 11 a.m. Hall Mountain Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call on Westside Road. A hay baler had caught on fire, igniting the field immediately around it. By the time Hall Mountain firefighters arrived the farmer had already ejected the bale of hay, unhooked the tractor from the baler, and was containing the fire with fire extinguishers.

“The farmer basically saved the day,” said hall Mountain Volunteer Firefighter Marty Steinhagen. “He did everything he should have.”

Hall Mountain firefighters were able to get the fire extinguished. Boundary Ambulance, an Idaho Fish and Game officer, and Idaho Department of Lands all responded to the call, and North Bench Fire and South Boundary were on standby.
