Shelman Realty brings Sasquatch to Bonners Ferry
BONNERS FERRY — During the scorching summer days over the weekend of July 20 and 21, during the busy Kootenai River Days, Shelman Realty brought the community members a unique experience.
Hans Flynn has been a chainsaw carver for about six years and over the past weekend, he added the log carving at Shelman Realty to his belt of several thousand carvings.
Shelman Realty served free huckleberry and moose tracks ice cream to visitors and dared them to guess the outcome. From a vertical log, Flynn carved first one side, then the other, and so on until there was a ghost of a face for community members to see by the evening of Friday, July 20. After the initial carving, Flynn used a hand torch to make the sculpture look more rustic, before brushing off excess wood material and finishing the carving.
During the funeral on Saturday, the company politely respected the procession and continued with the carving after the ceremony had commenced.
“There has been a steady stream of people coming and going, checking out what is going on here,” said Broker Mark Carey.
At about noon on Saturday, July 21, Shelman Realty was working on giving out over 600 units of both Huckleberry and Moose Tracks ice cream in pre-measured containers.
“Come on down and have some ice cream,” said Carey with gusto to newcomers. “We have a birth! We are celebrating the birth of Shelman the Bigfoot.”
“My dad and I were going to go to lunch and we saw the log carving and then we saw the ice cream sign, so we stopped in,” said Debby Davis, who attended the event with family members.
With an outpouring of support in person, online, and through word of mouth, Shelman Realty brought Shelman the Bigfoot to stand tall and proudly in front of their office.
