Wildfire in Boundary County

BONNERS FERRY — A wildfire gained ground on Wednesday, July 18, encompassing approximately 15 acres in an area east of Hwy 95 at approximately milepost 517 5. Multiple fire agencies responded, including Idaho Department of Lands, who brought a helicopter with a water bucket and a plane carrying fire retardant and water, both which have made multiple trips and are continuing at this time.
“Right now there are no homes threatened, but because of the high winds, they have taken precautions,” said Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer who was on scene. “We have some structure engines stationed close by to the residents, should the wind shift, to protect them.”
They brought in bulldozers which were instrumental in creating a fire break ahead of the blaze.
“It is a great team effort from all of the fire departments, fire districts, and Idaho Department of Lands,” Kramer said.
Members of Hall Mountain Fire, North Bench Fire, Curley Creek Fire, Paradise Valley Fire, South Boundary Fire, Bonners Ferry Fire, and the Idaho Department of Lands Fire all responded to the call and joined forces under Incident Commander North Bench Fire Chief Gus Jackson.
Through hard work and the dedication of many volunteers, the fire was contained and never reached the point of evacuation.
