BFHS Seniors honored at award ceremony

BONNERS FERRY — Bonners Ferry High School students came together in the auditorium on May 31 for the Night of Honors. The evening began with Senior Tea, provided by the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Chapter A.P., and was followed by a slideshow presentation with baby pictures and senior pictures of the students, which brought laughter and “aws” from the attendees.

The seniors were awarded honors and scholarships, which totaled around $1.2 million, but after the online awards were later added, the number reached about $1.5 million.

The students received a variety of scholarships and awards over the evening.

Valedictorian Victor Rae, Salutatorian Rayan Naylor, Salutatorian Hannah Sims, Cal Bateman, Ada Bonnell, Taiga DeLeon, Neil Martin-Copler, Myla McKechnie, Kassandra Skeen, and Joseph Swanson.

Seniors graduating with High Honors (3.75 or above):

Kadi Bateman, Jennica Branson, Mariah Roy, Tyler Beazer, Sierra Brown, Kendall Stone, Jadyn Bennett, Edie Callison, Haley Wenk, Jorryn Bennett, Jared Fess, Miranda Wenk, and Jordan Young.

Seniors graduating with Honors (3.5 to 3.75):

Reece Bell, Zachary Duffens, Joshua Owens, Anthony Bennett, Nicole Henslee, Ashlynn Rushing, Rhetta Blackmore, Hunter Jacobson, Chris Sabin, William Colson, Malachi Mooney-Rivkin, Jaeda Schnuerle, Slater Copley, Katelyn Onstott, and Shayne Walker.

The following students have each been awarded the Gear Up Scholarship for the amount of $2,000:

Austin Fairchild, Anthony Price, Griffin Falck, Isabella Bennett, Jesse Sandelin, Brady Bateman, Alan Rios, Madi Hoggan, Xavier Boychief, Bryce Nelson, Slater Copley, Colton Kunz, Hanna Ritz, Shayne Walker, Anthony Cree, Sierra Brown, Oscar Gutierrez Flores, Carson Bowlby, Kolbe Sanders-Myers, Anthony Minor, Beatriz Mendez, Maria Perez, Shiloh Thomas, Tyler Beazer, Korinne Thomas, Pacen Pluid, Meghan Chacon, Elizabeth Perez, Nick Magdaleno, Basil Labarbara, Kadi Bateman, Abby Eliassen, Micah Whittaker, Gracie Jones, and Courteney Facha.

Kyler Robles also earned the Whitworth University $127,800, as well as the Mick Blodnick Scholarship for $2,000, from Mountain West Bank.

Distinguished students, Kassy Skeen and Malachi Mooney-Rivkin, were also recognized.

Outstanding athletes, Kadi Bateman, for 2018 Donna Schnuerle Outstanding Senior Girl Athlete, was given a yellow rose by Tomi Bateman. The 2018 Don Sinclare Outstanding Senior Boy Athlete award went to Brady Bateman, presented by Tom Turpin. Victoria Rae was recognized for the 2018 Gladys Richardson Outstanding Underclassman Girl Athlete, presented by Kendra Maas. Andy Rice presented Seth Bateman with the 2018 Tim Mercer Outstanding Underclassman Boy Athlete award during the ceremony as well.

The evening ended with congratulations to the award recipients and excited smiles for the graduates.
