FFA students honored at awards banquet

On May 14, the Bonners Ferry FFA Chapter held its end-of-the-year Awards Banquet in the Becker Auditorium at Bonners Ferry High School.
Many exciting award presentations occurred including the Degree Awards, Distinguished Service Awards, and the installation of the 2018-19 Chapter Officer Team. We had many students receive their Discovery and Greenhand Degree, which sets the recipients on their journey in FFA.
Discovery students are currently participating in the agricultural education course at the Middle School, taught by Mrs. Brenda Kerttu. Greenhand students are current freshmen or those who have just recently joined FFA.
Five students received their Chapter Degree at the Banquet including Katelyn Hutchinson, Seamus Newcomb, and Bailey Myers. Additionally, community members including Missy Pinkerton, Tom Daniel, Mike Underhill, Stacey Sams, Leah Sandelin, Julie Newcomb and Janis Tucker, received their Distinguished Service Award for all the time and energy they donated to our chapter this year.
Mrs. Julie Smith, our chapter advisor, had various awards to give to outstanding FFA members who exemplified traits such as active participation, SAE excellence, and premier leadership. These awards included the Blue & Gold Award, Star Greenhand, and Chapter Farmer. She also delivered her Senior Remarks regarding our graduating seniors, Jesse Sandelin, Jordan Young, and Tori Smith. To show the activities our chapter participated in this year, a slideshow was made featuring pictures from the events we attended.
To conclude the event, the 2017-18 Officer Team was retired, and the new 2018-19 Officer Team was installed. Serving as the Chapter Sentinel for the 2018-19 school year, Chris Durette. As Historian, Kira Hull. As Reporter, Caleb Petersen. As Treasurer, Lance Freeze. As Secretary, Bailey Myers. As Vice President, Katelyn Hutchinson.
