Super 1 uses anniversary event to help community

BONNERS FERRY — Super 1 Foods brought community members together for their Sixth Anniversary Customer Appreciation Day.
There was face painting, temporary tattoos, an ambulance accompanied by first responders, a booth for the Bonners Ferry Fourth of July fundraiser, and a lunch with a choice of a hamburger, cheeseburger, brats, or hot dogs, accompanied with chips, a beverage, a fruit rollup, and a slice of cake.
“This is our sixth birthday party, and we wanted to raise money for a local cause, so this year we chose BoCo Backpacks,” said Head Cashier, Michele Sanburn-Kath. “Next year we plan to choose another cause. I think it’s important to support BoCo, because sometimes people are deprived, so it is helping to support a good cause, while thanking the community.”
BoCo Backpacks is an organization in Boundary County that assists in supplying school children with a little extra food for the weekends. Some students and their families in the Boundary County schools utilize the free or reduced-price meals at school, which indicates that they may be lacking a sufficient amount of nutritious food at home. The community has continued to help support the food needs for lower income families, and continue to help the children feel meal secure.
The BoCo Backpacks program provides children that are in need with a ‘backpack’ of a variety of mostly non perishable foods. There are cans of corn, green beans, raviolis, spaghetti and meatballs, single serving bags of cereal varieties, granola bars, beef sticks, and a variety of other foods that meet the nutritional needs for low income children during their time away from school.
Kath and her daughter, Kaleen Kath, brought together a booth of donated stuffed animals, books, and Super 1 T-shirts as prizes for a balloon dart game.
Employees walked around handing out samples, as attendees chatted with friends and family.
Boundary Ambulance brought a shiny, red ambulance for attendees to see as they showed their support for the event and provided knowledge about the BoCo Backpacks program.
Due to the windy and rainy weather, the traditional bouncy house and dunk tank were unable to be utilized this year.
The booth supporting the Bonners Ferry Hometown July Fourth Celebration were selling raffle tickets for a chance to win one of two available gift cards of $1,000 to Far North Outfitters, with all proceeds going towards the annual fireworks show. Tickets are still available at Far North Outfitters, Mountain West Bank, and on Facebook at Bonners Ferry July Fourth.
With fun children’s activities, food for all ages, and the company of friends, the sixth anniversary of the Bonners Ferry branch of Super 1 Foods, brought smiles both that day, and for days to come.
