Russell Owen Vernon
Funeral services for Russell Owen Vernon were held at Seventh Day Adventist Church on Jan. 14, 2018. He was born on Division Street in Sandpoint, Idaho, and passed away at Life Care on Division Street near his first home.
At two year old, Russ was moved to Palouse country while his Dad ran a Power Booster, for REA for orchards on the Snake River. At age three, he moved with family to a dairy farm in the Yakima Valley. There were many happy times with Vernon Grandparents, Melvin, Annie and sisters, Lois and Carolyn, while growing up until parents decided to return to North Idaho, where he continued school through high school in Bonners Ferry, graduating in 1963. In 1955 a new brother joined him, Curtis Wayne.
He married Helen (Tink) Walters in 1964. They embarked on a big job at a copper mine in Ely, Nev. Returning, he began many years as a logger that spanned many jobs and time in Ketchikan, Alaska. Russell also held other jobs in California, Oregon and Pullman, Wash., where he helped build a Safeway store. Other building projects included a deck, porch for a sister, and landscaping. His wife migrated to North Dakota with his children in the 1970s and on to Nebraska, where they grew up.
Russ enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in North Idaho. He spent 10 years an AA member and became a director after help with his own problem. He was remarried three times: Anita, Sharon M. and Meme.
He is survived by sisters, Lois Florea, Carolyn Warner, his children, Owen Vernon, Kennewick, Wash., daughters, Carrie Beuster and Linda Vernon, and four grandchildren.
Russ had a love for history, genealogy, and became a Bible student. He is loved by family and friends for his fun-loving ways and kind personality.
