Leroy Wedell

Leroy Wedell, 82, passed away at his home near Bonners Ferry, Idaho, on March 15, 2018. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in the Mountain View Mennonite Church at Bonners Ferry, with interment in the Mountain View Mennonite Cemetery.

Leroy was born to Issac B. and Lydia (Hoeppner) Wedell in Winton, Calif., on Aug. 4, 1935.

Leroy grew up in Winton, Calif., and at the age of 16 committed his life to Christ and was Baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite.

In 1958 in lieu of military service he spent two years working at Rancho Los Amigos in Los Angeles, Calif.

Leroy met his life companion Phyllis Ann Koehn and was married on May 1, 1960. They were blessed with nearly 58 years together. Three children were born into their home.

Leroy had a desire to live in the North. In 1968 they immigrated to Canada, living near Enderby, B.C., and making lifelong friends there.

In 1971 as a family they moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, living here for five years. Here he worked as a carpenter for B.F. Builders. Moving back to California in 1976 he found employment in farming. In 1986 they returned to Bonners Ferry.

During his life, Leroy enjoyed camping, traveling and gardening.

Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife Phyllis; one daughter, Jeanette Wedell of Bonners Ferry; two sons, Byron Wedell and Sylvia of Clovis, N.M., and Keith (Judy) Wedell of Windsor, Colo.; three grandchildren, Austin, Katrina, and Brooke; and one sister, Erma Unruh of Sharon Springs, Kan.
