100 Years Ago
Members of the B.F.H.S. basketball team returned Sunday from Moscow where they took part in the first annual state H.S. Basketball tournament. The boys played the 1st game and lost to the Post Falls team. The floor of the University gym is about 4 times the size of the floor of the local gymnasium. Thomas Gleed, forward for the home team was the star player of the game.
A.J. Kent is starting a campaign to have all the main traveled roads of the county and especially the cross roads of the National Parks Highway, plainly marked with stone monuments. He set an example worth following by having the 1st stone monument placed on the Northside. This monument carries the names and distances to nearby towns, and the mileage to New York and Seattle.
A benefit card party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Jacoby. Nearly $19 was raised and given to the Knights of Columbus for the war fund committee. Five hundred was played and delicious refreshments were served after the games.

At a regular meeting Tuesday of the Boundary County Technical Action Panel, the main item discussed was the possible establishment of a rural fire protection district in the county.
It was reported today by school officials that vandals broke into BFHS sometime during the night and turned on a fire hose on the top floor of the building, causing extensive damage.
A couple and their infant son escaped injury Tuesday night when the large U-Haul type trailer they were pulling with a late-model car jack-knifed and went over the bank off Highway 2-95 at the site of the McArthur refuge dam.

Junior Miss contestants prepare for “Super Seventies” April 26. BFHS Academic Decathlon team takes 13th at State. On March 14-15, the Bonners Ferry High School Academic Decathlon team went to Boise to compete against 23 other schools. Team members who attended were: Emily Eberle, Bradon Crane, Jacob Stonehocker, Jacob Barrows, Kandra Hamilton, Casey Neumeyer, and K. C. Ramsey.
Upon protest, the Naples dumpsite will not be closed down. Boundary County commissioners made the decision March 18 after Naples residents protested the planned closure of the dump site.
