100 Years Ago

A club called the “Jolly Rogers” has been formed by a few young girls from B.F. They staged a rummage sale and cleared $5.05 from the sale which was turned over to the local Red Cross auxiliary. Many of the articles sold were doll’s clothing and furnishings made by the girls themselves.

Captain A.B. Wilson of the Steamer Crescent expects to start making regular trips between B.F., Copeland, and Porthill. He plans to make 2 trips weekly leaving B.F. on Mondays and Thursdays.

Public Sale of cattle will be held Monday, April 1. Free lunch before noon. Sale starts at noon. Terms of Sale: Sums under $20 cash. Sums $20 and over a credit of 8 months at 10 percent interest is available. W. P. Luse, owner — I. Causton, Auctioneer. Mr. Luse will start to seed his ranch in the Cow Creek district and when his seed is in, Mr. Luse will enlist and be subject to call for service by the Regional Director of Railways as a train dispatcher.

Selected to lead the JayCees in the coming year was Don Morice. He has been an active and enthusiastic JayCee for six years, and is presently assisting in the organization of rural fire protection district. Don is manager of Co-Op Gas and Supply here.

Crews to resume work on airport job at Porthill — Moulton said the field will be known as “Eckhart International Airport” as a memorial to Ralph Eckhart who worked hard to see his plan become a reality. Its primary design is to allow Idaho pilots to fly internationally between Idaho and Canada, clearing customs and immigration requirement with highway border officials from dawn to dusk 365 day a year.

At a special directors meeting last Monday, officers and directors of the Boundary County Hay Market Association moved ahead on a program to erect a hay pelleting operation in Boundary County.

For the second time in a month, voters Tuesday night rejected the district’s M&O $877,058 Supplement Levy by 33 votes.

Junior Miss contestants vie for title April 26. The following are candidates: Jessica Poston-Bonners Ferry Lions Club; Tiffani Gort-Image of Idaho, Boundary County; Jennie Fisher-Royal Neighbors of America; Holly Merrifield-Steve Deitz, CPA; and Ashley Sims-Chamber of Commerce.

First Lieutenant Mike Walters, a 1995 graduate of BFHS, was recently named Company Grade Officer of the Quarter for Vandenberg Air Force Base. Earlier, Lt. Walter had been selected as CGO for Detachment 9, Space and Missile System Center which put him into competition for CGO, Associate Unit. He is the son of Dave and Brenda Walters.
