Story quilt exhibit on display at Boundary County Library
”This Is My Home Now: Narrative Textiles from Idaho Newcomers”
An exhibit of quilts stitched by Idaho newcomers working with Artisans For Hope volunteers will be at the Boundary County Library from Tuesday, May 8 until Friday, June 15. There will be a presentation at the Library May 8 at 7 p.m. with members from the organization.
Artisans for Hope is a non-profit organization in Boise that provides educational opportunities for the nearly six thousand individuals from thirty-five countries who now call Idaho home. Much of their funding is provided by the Idaho Commission on the Arts. The organization teaches textile skills, English as a second language, community integration and business skills.
This is a collection of quilted and stitched artworks that embody the collective voice of some of Idaho’s newest residents as they translate stories of journeys and lives in transition onto textiles. These examples of living traditions demonstrate how the visual impact of place affects values related to worldview, occupation, community and opportunity.
Thanks to Idaho Commission on the Arts, with the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, Artisans For Hope, and Boundary County Library this unique exhibit is being shown in Bonners Ferry.
