Public Service Announcements from the City

| May 10, 2018 1:00 AM

As the 2018 busy season winds up, the City will begin with a number of projects. The City, in an effort to provide the public with updates on city business and city projects, briefly summarizes those efforts in this public service announcement. The public is encouraged to contact the City if you desire more information about a particular project or update.

Logging

During the summer of 2018 the City Of Bonners Ferry is planning a number of small logging operations on city property near Moyie Springs. These properties are generally located near the City dam.

The objective of the timber sale is to improve long-term health of the forest by treating areas infected with root disease, mistletoe and dying western red cedar. A portion of the work will occur north of the Moyie dam for which public access will be restricted in that area for public safety. Access will remain open in the day use area immediately north and adjacent to the dam.

Anticipated start up for logging will occur in May and continue through June.

Licenses and leashes

The City wishes to remind residents that dogs shall remain on leashes any time while on a public street, sidewalk, property, or upon private property. It is the duty of the owner or handler to secure each dog by a leash or chain of sufficient tensile strength to restrain the dog and be controlled by a person of sufficient age and strength to control the dog.

The City does require that any dog within the City limits is required to be registered with the City by Jan. 31 of each calendar year. The purpose of this requirement is to insure lost dogs are returned safely to their owners. If your dog has not been licensed this year, you are encouraged to contact the City for proper licensing of your pet.

Business licenses

All persons and entities that are engaged in business activities within Bonners Ferry city limits must have a City Business License. This includes those physically located inside the city limits and those coming inside the city limits to perform work, sales, or services. The licensing requirement also applies to in-home businesses. (Please note that there are some limited exemptions.) If the business is located within Bonners Ferry or if your business is located outside of the city limits but you provide services or goods to people or property within the City, the answer is generally, yes.

You may apply in person at City Hall located at 7232 Main Street in Bonners Ferry. You can call 208-267-3105 and request that an application be mailed/faxed to you. A City Business License application fee is $25.00 and the annual renewal fee is $10.00. If you engage in business within the Bonners Ferry city limits without a license, the City may assess an administrative penalty in an amount set by resolution and/or misdemeanor prosecution.
