Second Harvest deliveries return

| May 10, 2018 1:00 AM

Second Harvest’s Grocery Rescue Program has set four dates for the mobile food delivery trucks to come to Boundary County this year. The dates are May 18, June 14, July 20, and Sept. 20. Again this year the food is available to anyone who needs food. No documentation or registration is required. Bringing your own boxes is most helpful. Each delivery will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church parking lot and will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The costs for the truck have been met in the past by individual donors, church sponsors, clubs/organizations (such as Rotary), and by Thrivent Financial. Last year, the cost to Boundary County was $750 per truck. The actual cost for Second Harvest was $2,000, but through an agreement with Thrivent Financial and a substantial donation they had made along with other grants our costs were kept lower.

This year the cost will be $2,000 per truck. Second Harvest has had a growing demand throughout the region for help with food and grants have not met the need. Thrivent Financial is again helping with costs. Second Harvest has found a matching partner for $1,000 and Regence Blue Shield of North Idaho is donating $2,000 to our cause. That still leaves us with $4,000 to raise for the trucks. We are looking for sponsors. If you, your business, or organization is able to help be a sponsor, you can call to find out how at 208-267-7826.

Each food distribution takes many hands to set it up and actually distribute the food. People helping to make the distribution work can start helping to set up by 9:30 a.m.
