100 Years Ago

Commencement arrangements are now complete for B.F.H.S. on Friday, May 24. A.J. Kent Chairman of the Board of Trustees will present the diplomas. Amy Fry will do an essay: “The Tie That Binds” and Harold McNally will give: “The History of Bonners Ferry.”

Otto Richter, cashier for the Spokane International Railroad at Eastport has just completed construction of a new public hall at Eastport which will be formally opened with a dance on Saturday evening. The new hall has dimensions of 18x60 feet and special pains were taken to put in a good floor for dancing. The hall is equipped with a kitchen.

50 Years Ago

Bonners Ferry’s Junior Miss, Sheri Hilton, received the royal robe from Miss Bonners Ferry, Arlene Merrifield, whose reign as the city’s official hostess ended in March. A Miss Bonners Ferry was not held this year and sponsors are considering which of the two pageants should be continued.

Ninety-four members of the graduating class of 1968 will receive diplomas, Monday, May 27, when the 60th annual commencement exercises will be held at BFHS. Valedictorian is Charles Spurgeon and Salutatorian is Paul Ugstad.

The American Legion Auxiliary announces their annual Mother’s Day Tea will be Monday, May 13 at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. Any mother, wife, sister or daughter of a veteran is eligible to attend.

Last Thursday, Bonners Ferry was honored with a plaque as Idaho’s “Most Friendly Town” at the 2003 Idaho Governor’s Conference on Recreation and Tourism held at Silverwood Theme Park. The plaque was presented by Governor Dirk Kempthorne to Darrell Kerby, Mayor of Bonners Ferry.

At 9:30 a.m. on April 24, the Idaho State Bar in the Supreme Court of the State of Idaho swore in 44 new attorneys. Among the new counselors were Timothy Bradford Wilson and Stephanie Jane Thompson from Bonner Ferry. Tim Wilson is now practicing law as a Wilson Family fourth generation lawyer.

They took care of babies and made pies to raise money. They sewed their own uniforms and put in long hard hours for free. For almost 50 years now, the Boundary County Community Hospital Auxiliary has helped bring quality medical care to the people of Boundary County.
