The Badger baseball team claimed its sixth District Championship, second in three years, as senior Will Parr threw a no hitter against the Timberlake Tigers in a 5–0 victory.

After the championship game was cancelled on Wednesday due to poor field conditions, the Badgers and Tigers went head to head last Thursday for the fourth consecutive year in determining who would represent District 1 in the 3A state tournament. Parr, who slightly struggled in the first inning throwing 19 pitches after hitting the first batter, settled in and threw a total of 85 pitches in the game while striking out seven and walking two.

The Badgers started the scoring when Mason Eby reached on a walk, Seamus Skeen reached on an error from the shortstop, and Parr, helping himself, ripped a 2 run single to right scoring both base runners to put Bonners Ferry up for good.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Brady Bateman started the inning off lining a double into the left centerfield gap. After a Seth Bateman walk, Shayne Walker laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. Chris Sabin was intentionally walked to load the bases and Jared Fess followed with a clutch two-run double down the third base line to score the Bateman brothers. Eby was then hit by a pitch to again load the bases. Ty Bateman hit into a fielder’s choice, but Sabin scored on an error by the catcher when he dropped the throw from third for the force out, increasing the Badger lead to 5–0.

The Badgers finished off the Tigers in the last two innings to claim the Intermountain League District title and advance to the 3A State Baseball Tournament May 17 – 19 in Ontario, Ore. The games will be played at Treasure Valley Community College and Bonners Ferry will face the Payette Pirates on Thursday at noon PDT. Bonners Ferry and Payette faced each other in the semifinals last year as the Badgers prevailed in a tight one, 5–3.

The state tournament games will be video broadcast through IdahoSports.com.
